You are going to need a bigger fuel tank

I get about 10mpg unloaded with mine. Our work truck that tips in at 16.3k is getting about 8.5-9 right now. Both are 4.88 geared

Ditto the other's comments - I get around 7 - 8 in mine pulling 23K. It seems to pull better if I can maintain a higher speed (such as around 70), as it does not slow down so much on the small hills. If I keep it around 60 - 65, the accelerator spends more time on the floor.

The 36 gallon fuel tank really leaves a lot to be desired when towing. Two things that I wish my truck had are a much larger fuel tank, and two more overdrive ranges in the tranny.
Unloaded, if I put the cruise on 55 or less, I'll actually get 14 - 15 mpg. Anything over 55 and the mileage really starts dropping. I average around 10 combined city and 65mph highway, again driving unloaded (and w/o trailer).
