which front axle do i have?

which front axle do i have?

how do i tell which front axle i have in my 86 f250 with IFS. ?

I believe you have the Dana 44, I don't think the Dana 50 made its debut until '87, but I may be wrong.

i called the parts store for bearings and for my year they need to know if it is a 44, 50, or a 60

I'm pretty sure there is a vin decoder on this site somewhere.

vin decoder doesnt tell you about the axles

look at the front locking hubs. the 44 has a smaller hub. if it looks like this, it is a 44.

and if it looks like this, it is a 50.

even though the 44 has a warn hub, the stock is the same size, so you will still see a bit of the hub mounting surface that you can not see with the 50

is it a regular cab? if so it can be a dana 44 or dana 50 (optional). its an ext. cab then its a dana 50...

The Dana 44 hub diameter is approx 3 1/4". The Dana 50 is 4".

a dana 50 is a two piece axlejoined on the passenger side by a universal joint to see this u have to go under the truck where as a 60 and 44 as i know of are solid

well it is a ex cab . im on my out side to take a look at the hubs

i bet its a dana 50.

there was the TTB dana 44, IRS dana 44 and solid 44...

there are also 44 50 I,m not sure about 60 ttb axles.
also on the solid axles some had the big hubs so that is not 100% either not sure with tht ttb axles.
you are right about the vin ran mine nothing on axles.
on the horsepower it had tbd what does this mean anybody.

dana 60s were solid.

dana 50 was TTB or solid in the stuper dooties.

some 44s on the solids (usually 8 luggers) had big hubs...yay!

ok according to ajc transports pics it would be a 50 now everyone is saying how you can tell a 44 from a 50 what about a 60? and according to the parts store there were 60 ifs 's . but who knows

a 60 is a solid axle...no real burdon.
