Unhappy Ford 150 2002 Engine Light

Check Engine light came on after adding fuel injector cleaning fluid. Did that cause the "check engine" light to come on later? Gp

prob. not. go to advanced auto or autozone and get the code pulled. make sure you get the code number and don't listen to what they say. they are idiots. get the code then you can post it here and i can try to help.

Welcome to FTE gnilop,

Please include truck info

engine, trans, 2wd, etc. along with the codes when you get them.

The info will help us give you a better idea on what is going on with your truck.

Thanks for the come back, I did go to AUTO ZONE earlyer today and they did pull the code and said it was missfire in cylendar #4 and I also purchased the ACTRON OBD 2 AUTO SCANNER because these gas station guys are also gouge artists but not as bad as a Dealer.. No wonder they don't sell cars, no one can get a fair deal or trust them.

i would start with a coil pack. take out the #4 coil pack and see if there is any signs of arching. if not then switch the coil pack with a diff. cylinder and clear codes. test drive the truck to see if the missfire codes folows the coil pack or if it stays on the #4. if folows the coil pack then the coil pack is bad. if it stays on #4 then check to make sure your fuel injector is working. take a long screw driver and put it against the body of the injector and put your ear on the other end. with the engine running you should hear it ticking. if it is not ticking make sure it is plugged in. you can put the long screw driver on it and tap it with a hammer and see if it starts working. if the injector is working the you need to check compression.

Hey Elmo thanks! I have been reading this book that came with the Actron OBD2 and will go out and try what you said. I did buy a new extra coil about a year ago ($49.00) but then realilized I had no way to check wich one was bad until now. It's a rainy crappy day and I should be able to get to it after I get the garage warmed up, can't go skeet shooting anyway. Best to you. Gary

Yea, Fords are better than GM but ALL dealers are crooks! They charged my wife $250.00 TO ROTATE HER FREGGIN TIRES! I raised hell with Jim Brown -the owner of "Classic-Ford, Chevey, & just about every other car he has tied up.

But my F150 is a 2002 4x4 Small Triton V-8= 4.6L !
I just got done changing the 4th cylindar coil and PLUG. I had the plugs changed a few months back but because the KID that worked on the car seemed to be in a hurry and the plug was way in the back and hard to change I went ahead and changed it.
I just fired the truck up to check for gas leaks after taking the fuel injector rod off and it seems to run fine, but the SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT IS STILL ON! Do I have to do something to turn it off? I think I saw somewere in the book to reset the codes or after a thousand revolutions it should reset.. I'll be reading the Actron book untill I hear from you. Also you should have good Grouse hunting down there or at least there used to be. None up here at all. Best to you. Gary

yes, you have to clear the code with the scanner. it should tell you in the book how to do it. if you clear the code and then it comes back on then there is still a problem. when you clear the code make sure the engine is not running and the key is on.

Yea that should take care of it, clear it and drive it. It will take a while for the monitors to set so even if you clear the codes start it, and the lights off doesnt mean its fixed, time will tell, but if it isnt runnin rough id say your good. If the light does come back on, the next culprit would be the injector on #4..
