Lucas Oil Treatment

Has anyone used Lucas Oil Treatment in their engine? I have a 2000 5.4L with 138,000 miles on it. I burn about a quart of oil every 1000 miles. The dealer said this is normal and within Fords specs even though it only recently started to burn oil.

Today while I was getting more oil to do an oil change I spotted the Lucas Oil Treatment.

When putting it in the truck I became very concerned since it's extremely thick. It's almost like honey thick. I also noticed it was very sticky. I stopped and re-read the label and it said to use in engine and mix with oil. So I continued and have 5 quarts regular 10w30 and 1 quart of the Lucas oil.

I drove it about 10 miles to get everything mixed up and fortunately the engine didn't blow up but I guess I'm just wondering how this works and if anyone else has used it.

I'm also wondering how many hours my next oil change will take as all of this slowly slowly slowly slowly drains out.

Well after reading some other posts after doing a search I became more concerned and the engine is draining right now. So far the oil coming out looks think and I haven't seen a slow trail of honey trickling out of the pan so I am hoping that since the engine is warm everything mixed and was thin enough to come out together. I don't have another filter so I will be draining the pan only. If I can get 80% out I would sleep better.

Smart move. Thick oil takes too long to get up to the valvetrain when cold.

I believe I got it all. The truck takes 6.25 or so and it took 6 quarts to get it back to the top of the full mark. I'm guessing that since it came out thin that when it is warm it's like normal oil?

It thins out when hot, but is still thicker than the 5W20 /5W30 oil.

So should I be worried about what was left in the oil filter? I was thinking of doing another oil change next weekend to replace the oil again and also the filter. I didn't have a spare filter today so that is why I didn't change the filter. I don't want to over do it though and be over concerned. Right now there is 5w30 in there which is what I have always been using.

I wouldn't be concerned with the little bit left in the oil filter. I would wait until the next scheduled oil change.

There's only one person I know that used that Lucas Oil Treatment. He had two vans, an E150 with the inline 6 (bulletproof) w/90K miles and a E350 with a 351W w/150K miles.

They both experienced catastrophic oil pressure loss within 2-3 weeks. The 351W lived because it was so loose to begin with. The I6-300 spun a main bearing.

He always changed his own oil, the only thing different was the Lucas stuff.

Come to your own conclusions...
