pickin up a 04 f150 fx4 supercab with 15K miles on it. Just wondering if theres any known problems with these besides the spark plug problem and how i can avoid it. This will be my first pickup and im really pumped to pick it up this afternoon.

 

04's were the first model year so there were some teething problems. Make sure you take it out on the HWY to see if there are any vibrations. Also listen to the engine after warm up to make sure there is no VCT noise. Some of them had some alternators that make a whistle noise when it is real cold out. You can search to find threads on all these.

 

Yeah a whistle from the alternator is the problem i have from the alternator but only when its real cold out. Also listen for rattles from the door panels/ rear window. I rode in my buddies 06 FX4 the other day and i was somewhat surprised at how quiet it was compared to mine.

 

Check the rear brake light area for leaks.
