76 360 dual fuel tank problems

I seem to be stuck on the fuel tanks this month. My bud's 76 F150 360 automatic has dual tanks. He fills both tanks and runs the main tank until a quarter of tank from empty then switches to the reserve or auxillary tank only to find it is all most empty as well. ( this ford has set quietly in waiting for 9 years and has just been put back into active use).

What would cause this loss of fuel?

Pepper

It's probably the tank selector valve leaking and not completely keeping the tanks isolated from one another so it's pulling from both tanks all the time. I've never had a problem with mine. I would guess they could get crap stuck from the tanks or varnish build up from old gas in there and cause this situation. Take it off and clean the insides out with some carb spray or something. It's worth a shot. I bet he thought he was getting great mileage for awhile there.

Duh! I would have never thought of that Mike Thanks at least a F250! (I'm not kidding I would never ever have thought of cleaning the tank selecter!)

The valve I am talking about under the truck, not the switch on the dash right? Let us know how you do.
