I recently purchased some "molded carpet" from stockinteriors.com (which I learned from some of the threads here) and I'm surprised that it's not very "molded". Is there some tricks/tips I can do to get it to fit decent?

A friend of mine runs cars through auctions and he buys house carpet and then sprays rubbing alky on the back. That softens the carpet a lot and puts it in place and nudges it with a rubber hammer. When the alky evaporates the carpet gets hard again. works good and actually looks good also because all the edges are hid. Sometimes he also takes groomers clippers and shaves the carpet so he can glue heel pads down.

what do you mean by "lacquer thinner isn't perfume"?
I got some carpet online (dont remember where) for my crewcab, I was amazed how well it fit, while not OEM it had carpet in the rear steps which is a pretty deep/sharp form. I'll have to dig the box out of the attic, it was great, I will use them again when I carpet the F-600. they even sold me some additional matching carpet for the cab back wall cheap.
whd507, please did that box out of the attic! i'd like to know where you got your carpet for your crew. i'll need some for mine sometime too. did your crew originally have carpet or rubber flooring?
Thanks!

I am really intrigued by this idea! Does it really work pretty well? I have a ton of carpet left over from a house remodel that would look good in the truck, after I dye it, but never thought about this idea. How much alcohol do you use and how long does it take for it to soften the back? Does he glue it or what.
Sorry for all the questions but brought up a real $ saver if it will work and keep me out of the dog house for buying molded (pre-formed).

the XLT had thick carpet, the F-600 was rubber no padding, the F-250 cab that became my F-150CC was padded rubber. they all three had folded rubber in the rear step area, but this carpet is molded there instead. I just re-installed the trim piece over the ridge to eliminate wear.
