Go to the store and get some "fuse taps" Find a radio fuse that goes on and off with the key, and plug one of the wires to the fuse tap, and take the other wire and bolt it to something metal under the dash. Just make positive you have the polarity correct.

If Im understanding this correctly, you say the problem is in the plug for the sirus unit. I would check it out before you hardwire it. I know the one for my xm unit steps the voltage down to 6v.

If this is true then yes, be very careful trying to bypass the plug.

I agree, many cigarette lighter plugs have step-down converters internal to them, so I wouldn't be too quick to hard-wire it to your truck. You'll want to look on the back of the unit or in the owner's manual to look at the voltage rating first. The original cigarette lighter plug may have the output rating on it as well.

You cannot direct wire your sirius radio without getting an adapter that lowers the voltage for the radio to 6v. I know this from personal experience. Fried a unit myself. Subsequently found out there are several on-line companies that sirius radio accessories that sell a device that will enable you to hardwire the radio.
