If they are just going to drop the 5.4 later why would they spend a bunch of money to give it a huge increase in power like that, when the 6.2 is on the horizon. I wonder if the 4.6 will benifit from these alleged huge increases.
When did Ford advertise that the 5.4 is going away? Do they expect the
4.6L 3V to take it's place in the line - up? At 290 HP and ? tourque specs, I'm certain that it could easily handle the needs of a 1/2 ton. The 6.2 is long overdue.
My guess is around 400hp & 390 #/ft and that would be respectful.Still keeping it small enough for fuel effiency. This would be great if Ford could pull off this feat.

Lets all hope and pray thats not the case. An engine that puts out more hp than torque is typicaly a car engine. We need torque, not hp. In fact, I'd be happy with a torque and fuel economy boost while maintaining that HP rating.

I could not agree more. I would like to see more mpg's. but crap mileage comes with owning a truck, lets not give it away and forget about it.
The current 5.4l makes as much torque as the rest of the compition and probably makes it at a lower RPM.... it might give up 10ftlbs or somthing... i dont see the problem... the hp should go up a bit just so that the truck dosent seem so asmatic when driving around...
just my .02

I personally think most everybody here is expecting to much of a MPG increase. I really do not think we are going to get more torque and HP, and mpg increase at the same time. It's a truck, gas mileage was the least of my concern when I bought mine. I figure it can get more hp and close to 400 ft lb's of torque and maintain the current MPG I will be happy. I get 14 city and 17-20 highway, i think that is pretty good.
With the '04 model+, the 5.4L was given 3V instead of 2V, keeping the lb-ft Q at 365, but boosting the HP from 260 to 300 and a new tune. I'd venture to guess along the same lines this time. Maybe a 10-15 lb-ft TQ increase and 15-30 HP increase, give or take a little.
I'm satisfied with my '06 5.4L having 300/365, it has more than enough for me. Now had it come with the 6spd trans, that would make the truck a lot better and is most important to me. This will help both the performance of the motor as well as the mpgs. Like some, I'd take the mpg increase with the same power output over the power increase and same or less mpgs.
Just my thoughts.
