If they are just going to drop the 5.4 later why would they spend a bunch of money to give it a huge increase in power like that, when the 6.2 is on the horizon. I wonder if the 4.6 will benifit from these alleged huge increases.
I don't think the 5.4 is going away any time soon. One of the 2 4.6 wil probably go away when the 6.2 comes on board.
My question is this. If most of us are looking for more out of our engines and some hopeing for bigger displacement engines, Why is Ford thinking of putting out a new 4.2L v8 to replace the v-6 of the same size? Did I read something wrong in the talk of this new for '09 F-150 I know this is off topic but the last couple of posts talking about dropping engines got me thinking...Sorry moderator.

The 5.4 will be dropped before the 4.6. The 4.6 is just too flexible, used in too many applications. The 6.2, with cylinder deactivation, GDI and such, could actually replace the 5.4 altogether, assuming it maintains comparabe fuel economy to the 5.4 which isn't hard to imagine.
FTEKen, I found the info I read about the 4.2 V8, on the main FTE page under "latest articles". If you click on the "2009 F-150 revealed" article by Ken Payne it says ford will drop the V6 and offer three V8 options: 4.2 2v, 4.6 3v, and 5.4 3v. I am not saying this article is correct, just saying thats where I read it.

I'm not saying droping the 4.6 just the 2valve one which I think I read is from Canada?
I was looking at Motor Trend and there was an article on the f150. It only shows 310hp and 365lbs. Not a big jump at all! It did say something about the new 6.2.
Here is something I found interesting from Banks power, http://store.bankspower.com/Categori...1-ec752871ce8f , it claims raises the current 5.4 to 345/412. So I think we should be able to expect at least that from the 2009.
i would like to see a price for that... would be well worth it

I'd like to see 340-350 Hp to go along with a more fuel effiecient engine that adds close to two MPG. Throw in the new 6 speed tranny for another added MPG and then I'd be happy.
