picture this....

I am developing a direction for my next mid 70's halfie 4x4 build.

I have a 77 F 150 custom 4x4 with 351/C6. long box, reg cab. just your average regular old truck.

that's the build platform.

OK, I've already done the shiny perfectly straight truck with the pollished alum wheels, the bling & such.

this truck though, I'm thinking of going a new direction, new for me anyways.

Budget: priority goes to engine/drivetrain, wheels tires, then body/paint.

So, my lazy 351 needs improvements. I have a spare out of a 79 bronco. I'll build the spare for the truck, I'll eek the CR up to around 9:1 or just shy of by using the higher comp TRW pistons .30 over & shaving the head 10-15 thou. I'll run a common idle to mid RPM range performance cam with cam timing straight up, alum intake (dual plane) & a 600 cfm 4v, dual exhaust. that's it for the engine. Trans, t-case, diffs & axles will get serviced, stock axles & gears will remain, detroit locker in the back, limited slip in the front. tires will be 33-10.5's on black steel wheels. 4" susp lift.

Body will get new sheetmetal where ever it needs it (in my case bed sides & cab floors)

Color change, the 2 tone brown/tan goes, in it's place, OD green for the main body color with black roof cap & black accent color on the sides (inside racetrack trim) the body will be straight, the paint will be laid down with care, I am after a nice looking finish although I will top it all with a matte finish urethane clear. Racetrack trim & grill shell will be scuffed & low gloss, low texture black powder coated. Headlight trim & grill inserts will be liquid coated flat black & or OD green. Fact bumpers to be replaced with my own custom fab bumpers with heavy D rings, front will have brush guard & winch accomodations, rear will be boxed/air tight & will serve as an air slave tank.

interior will be stripped & painted to match ext, new weather stripping will halp make for a wind leak free cab.

dual exhaust to dump out the rear.

bed to be lined.

F-150 badging deleted & replaced with stencil painted badging "F-BOMB"

who digs it & who says I'm smokin crack?

can you see it? is it cool?

Sounds FREEKIN AWSESOME! Im lovin the green and black and flat black. dumpin your exhaust out the side is my 2 cents tho. And some chrome accent(trim ring i reckon) on some black bulletholes sounds good.

I'm working on doding the same thing except i'm going for the "murdered out" look. Flat black, i mean. Mine is an f250 though, she doesn't have a bed and i'm working on building an off road style flat bed for it. What you got in mind with the green and black, it would look good.

I can't wait to get started.
If it all comes together as I have it in my vision, it'll have a very straight & professional look that looks & screams "hunt-fish-play" and it will all stay within a blue collar budget. (my budget)

I should post a "before picture"

STG, how'd you get your paint to look so textured? I imagine it was fun.

hey guys, I did find a couple of current photos of my little brown halfie which would be the "before" pictures for this project.

here we are loading her down with some black dirt/manure for wife's flower stuff last spring.

this one is just the old truck parked in front of my hunting cabin late last summer/fall.

Its actually a 6 stage house of colors paint system to make it look like I got tipsy and played in the mud like a highschool kid. The basecoat alone cost $1200 a gallon

Dave,
thats a nice looking truck. Are you sure you want to OD green it?

I dunno. maybe it is too nice to go all flat & tuff... but f I do it up like the midnight blue 78 above, well then i'll feel bad about scratching it & stuff..

I have some time to figure it out, no money to play with right now anyways.

I know exactly what you mean. I built this truck (79 F250) to replace the 79 F150 I spent too much money on and made it too nice to get scratched in the woods etc.
see...

started out with a clapped out absolute heap of crap that i drug home & refused to give up on... this "before" shot was probably after owning & working on the truck for a good 3 years & just driving it as a beater.

of course these don't capture everything, cab was gutted, glass free, door free, OMG, well you obviously know first hand.

Bedsides peeled off, new ones fit, fenders... oh truck restoration on one as bad as this one was ended up being the gift that kept on givving.... or, taking, from my wallet anywhays!!
drivetrain front to rear, all 4 corners... springs, shocks, cooling, heating, brakes... omg it just never ended.

But man I sure miss that truck, I sold it probably.... mmmm, maybe 6 years ago?

time to start again with what is a better build platform this time.
