telephone poles do give, while working, I came upon a civic that went head on into a pole. The pole cracked at the base and now leans 25 or so degrees off center. This happened on monday morning during a "Big" snowstorm 
. Lot of accidents happened that day, lot of spinouts too, and alot of exit signs were mowed over or standing on one leg.
