Has anyone used the camburg lift

I was going to convert my van to 4X4 but is looks like it may not be the best thing to do for towing my trailer. (see other tread about towing with a E350) and I have my truck to tow with. I was looking around to see what kind of suspension kits were made for the E- series vans and found Camburg. The kits look like they are well enginnered,
but I can't get in touch with anyone. Has anyone had thins kit installed on their van? and how well does it work, in regards to bump steer and ride harshness.

The pictures on the web site look good, and they said they designed the suspension for what I use the van for anyway.

the following companies make lift kits for ford vans including E350's

Sportsmobile Fresno Ca 559-233-8267
QuadVan Portland Oregon
Camburg Engineering Huntington Beach ca
Auto Fab Santee Ca 619-562-1740
Spirit Racing 619-561-2913
Full tilt San Clemente Ca

Personally, I am going with the Camburg Engineering Lift (Chase Van Baja Style 2wd).

Sportsmobile won't convert your van you have to buy a new one from them.
These guys will do it to your van provided is has under 30k miles on it. tehy charge about 15k to do it but is covered under Ford's warrenty
http://www.salemkroger.com
Quad van will also convert you van. But you have to go to Portland. I checked into all this and was going to sell my truck and convert the van, but I don't think it would suit my needs as well. Really all I need is to get down some unimproved dirt roads, which can be really nasty, I don't use the 4 wheel in my truck when driving on them now so the van shouldn't need it. It's all a matter of driving technique.

All the conversion company's use teh factory transfer case and factory type front axle. Sports mobile and Quigaly use stock type coil sprinl and raduis arms, the others use leafsprings like the 03 and older F series trucks. Leaf set up seems stronger.

I have decided to try the 2wd kit from Camburg but after 4 calls and 3 e-mails the sales guy hasen't contacted me. Fabtech really said they are the best on the market and I thought I saw one drive by on Sunday. They look like thy would work well with 10 -12 inches of travel. The cost seems reasonable considering I was going to spend 12K.

I decided to go with Camburg as well. I need to get down some rough roads but I don't need a rock crawler. we use ours for towing and camping so the lift to got over large rocks and uneven terrain is all were looking for. Wife says I have to wait till summer to do it though.

I'm ready but need to know if the ride is going to go down the drain first. I wish they would return my calls though. I may just have to take a day off work and go there and see them to get any answers.

I got tired of waiting for Camburg to call or e-mail me. I went down there and talked with them. they have a prety nice shop and they have a display of the components they use. I looked at the custom radius arms they make and they look bretty beefy. The back of the arm on the stock uses a rubber bushing, hese guys use a custom Hiem-joint that allows the arm to pivot when the suspension is comressed. They clame that the ride is smoother on the freeway since the spring rate and travel is different.

I asked about how big a tire can be run and they said that the tire isn't too much larger than stock ( about 32-11's) because of the rear of the fender well ( tied into the firewall) but there is still 10" of travel and the ride is supposed to be smoother ( whinch is what I want). I talked about an appointment and they said it takes about two days to do the job. I put myself on there schedule for the 2nd week in March and see if they are too booked.

The only snag is getting the van down there and getting back.

I was waiting for finals to finish in school. I had some questions about bump steer and ride harshness. I was told that since they don't change the geometery much there is mominal bump steer. I was conserned about the radius arms being mounted directly to the bracket without any bushings and the noise and vibration being transmitted to the body. They claim since the radius arms swivel or rotate with the I beam it dosen't transmit any thing to the chassis. Now that schools out I can make arraingments. It takes 2-3 days for them to do the lift and they are 50 miles away so I have to figure out how to get there and back.

I asked Fab Tech about there lift for the van's and they told me to go to Camburg. So, if the guys in the industry recommend these guys that goes a long way. I guess I'll find out in the next few weeks.

Thanks for keeping us up to date.

Presently looking for 06-07 E350 and I will also be adding the Camburg lift. BTW, what size tires will you be running? Did Camburg make any suggestions for tires?
