How loud do you want it?

Magnaflow makes a great muffler. If you want a louder sound you will want a shorter bodied Magnaflow muffler. A magnaflow muffler with a 24" long case will be just a tad louder than stock.

Another muffler you could look at is the Dynomax Ultra-flo. They are a straight thu muffler like the magnaflow, but the ultra-flo has fiberglass packing. As the fiberglass wears out the tone will get deeper and more aggressive. I used to have one on my 6.8l. The Dynomax ultra-flo will be deep and aggressive.

Chambered mufflers like Flowmasters do not flow well compared to straight thru mufflers like the dynomax ultra-flo and magnaflow mufflers. "Flowmaster" is somewhat of an Oxymoron.

Magnaflow 5"T X 18" long case, Dynomax Ultra-Flo, FM 50SUV or FM50 HD all will sound good on the 5.4l with little to no drone.

You could search Youtube for some videos of different muffler on 05-up 5.4l SD. 05' Up 5.4l and 6.8l SDs use the same exhaust as your 08'.

These guys are right on the money... straight through mufflers flow better and are better for performance than chambered ones.

I have a 14" SIDO Magnaflow on my truck and love it... its just the right amount of volume for me. Mellow when cruising, aggressive when getting on it and fairly unobtrusive on the inside...

I had an IMCO (now Cherrybomb) Pro series SIDO and it was LOUD! Inside and out... sounded pretty good though.

Does that 14" case Magnaflow sound like what 08f250 is looking for?

Sounds like that 14" Magna would work good for him. The Dynomax Ultra Flo is also of similar size to the 14" Magnaflow muffler. Both are good, well built mufflers.

Got a video you could post?

That guy has an 03' SD. 99'-04' SDs come with one massive cat conv. and 00'-04' have a crappy necked down y-pipe.

05' up exhaust are much much better. 05' Up like yours uses two cats (one on each y-pipe) so they may hinder sound some but will flow plenty. I would put the new muffler on once and see how it sounds. I'm shure your truck will sound great with the stock cats in place.

Just so you know the stock OEM cats are mucho expensive. Your probably looking over a grand to replace those two cats if you buy them from a Ford dealer. Scrap price for stock cat converters are very high. I'd leave your cats be. Aftermarket high flow cats are cheap though.

I had the Flowmaster 50 on my 04. Sounds just like stock, but louder. No rumbling or droning in the cab.

Definitely agree on going out the sides, pull a trailer once with the pipes out the back and you'll regret it.
