Thumbs up

Awsome write up. One thing, getting a 36mm socket on its own is not simple. Local parts store sold me a Lisle Oil/Fule Filter Socket for 6.0L Ford Diesel. Part # 14500. Made changing the filters a snap. Fits a 3/8 socket wrench.

I've 'heard' that when draining the HFCM, the fuel tank should be low, otherwise, the fuel will 'siphon' out. If the tank is low, at least below half, this doesn't occur, making the process less messy.

I changed my filters at 12,000 miles, and 24,000 miles. The first set was filthy, I had just begun using 5% biodiesel from a commercial retailer. The second set of filters was not nearly as bad, using more biodiesel than before, and at a higher concentration. About 20% from a commercial retailer. I must have gotten into a bad batch of dirty fuel somewhere in the first 12,000 miles.

I would have put the second set of filters back in, but I was afraid I had brushed them against the dirty frame rail when removing them. No point in risking it, filters are cheaper than injectors!!!

My truck is an 05 4X4, SC with 27,800 miles on it. My lease due to expire in April, on the 21st. It's a great truck. If it were a crew-cab, I would buy it at the end of the lease.

Nice to know that I'm not the only one who gets fuel on them while changing the fuel filter. I have another step to add to the filter change. Make sure the fuel filter cap is not cross threaded before you install it. I'm one of those dummies that did it and now have to purchase a replacement cap. Any suggestions as to who might carry one besides the dealer 75.00.

changed my fuel filter today. The rail filter was clean appearing. The small filter in the engine compartment was dark brown. I kind of assumed the rail filter would be the one that would be dirty.

This is an excellent writeup. Thinking about doing my filters and came across this. I wonder where the pictures went to on the orginal post? Do you still have them DCspecial?
