You are right about that Brady.I can't believe between LMC, DC and all the other companies out there that makes reproduction parts someone would make the rear door panels.
How about a headliner? Do you guys know of any aftermarket headliners for the cc's?If it comes down to it I can get the local upholstery shop to put in a headliner but I am sure thats going to be about a weeks pay.If I could just find those 2 items new I would be in good shape with my restore.
for my headliner i just recovered the one that was in my truck, a can of spray adhisave and some carpet form autozone got the job done and looks great.

Thinking the Government stimulus plan is working is like thinking that taking water form the deep end of a pool and dumping it in the shallow end will raise the water level of the pool.

Thats what I would do if it was an option. But there is nothing left but the metal frame and a little bit of padding stuck to the roof. The way it is now, even the cheap way out is going to cost me so I would rather spend the extra and get it looking like it did in 79.
I am going to make my own headliner for the crew. Hit the local Lowes or Menards and get the thinnest board material you can find. I am going to use the old headliner as a template to cut the new piece from. I'm sure I can find some material at a fabrics store.

Now I could do that using the frame as a template or if the board is big enough I will figure out a way to cover the whole roof that way I can dyno-mat it to.Thanks for the idea Ranger.
frame as a template is a bit hard - but if your stock headliner is completely toast - it's worth a try.
I would mess with making a cardboard template 1st. Test fit it and fine tune it a bunch and then make a "final" version out of plastic, wood or be like me and go aluminum
Also - do a search for "supercab headliner" here in the 73-79 forum. There is a guy who made a plastic headliner for his supercab and he has a pretty good write-up in his gallery.

I just finished the headliner in my crew about 2 weeks ago. I did like ranger429 and used that thin white board found at lowes (slick white on one side and semi rough brown on the other). I used the old headliner as a template and cut the board to fit. I ordered a grey replacement headliner cloth (the kind with the foam backing), and glued it on with spray adhesive. You can find this headliner cloth at most large fabric shops. I also got fancy and added another dome light from a Taurus to the middle for extra light. The entire thing fit back perfectly using all the old trim. I also used Rammat (RAAMaudio.com) same as dynomat, only cheaper. This was put on floors, in doors and on roof, and it made a tremendous difference in the noise. I have loud pipes!
I'll try to get some pictures posted of the headliner.
Here are a couple of headliner pictures, along with the carpet that I put in about a month ago...
There is one small screw up on the liner over the drivers head where my screw gun slipped. And there was a small gap in the center seam when I got ready to take this picture, so I hit the molding to see if it was snapped properly--and broke a piece out of it! STUPID!!! I have the piece and will glue it back on.
Windows were tinted on Thursday, bedliner sprayed in yesterday. It is now finished for the most part!
Still a few minor upgrades under the hood, but it is never truly done.
Driving it to Crusin the Coast in Biloxi, Mississippi next week.
It was a fairly simple swap. The new tilt column bolted up exactly, but i used the old boot assembly on the firewall. The steering linkage had been modified previously, so there is no rag joint in my steering. (this was a 2wd, so the box is different, and in a different location) But even at that, it all hooked up with no shortening or lengthening of the existing shaft.
The wiring just had to be moved on a few pins to make everything work, and the cruise buttons are only for show, none of this is functional, although I guess it could be--it was already in the column.
New guy here. My name is Bubba and I'm looking for that special truck. I love the sixth generation, but can't decide if there is a specifac year I should look for. I plan on doin muddin in it (which means definatlely liftin it with some big tires), but still keepin lookin nice. That means a 4x4 is mandatory. It will also be the daily driver. So I guess my question is, were there any changes in a certain year that would make that year better than the others for what I have planned?
todd, I am switching a 74 onto a 77 chassis and doing the upgrade of the 78/79 steering and was going to just bring over everything from the 79 donor, but I did not look at the bolt up of the column into the 74 cab, thanks for the reply, what is the color code from that paint, I was looking at the burnt orange/sienns from the 05 ford line of colors...still undecided though, my 77 was white/blue which looked cool too.
bubba, I would look at the very least an 78/79, becaose then you don't have to do the steering upgrade, but the pickins get slim and sometimes costly unless you are at the right place at the right time, or as in my case the wrong place at the right time....it seems that I always seem to find more trucks for the collection ...which makes for some explaining to the Mrs.
The paint is PPG, and the color is called Tangerine Pearlcoat. It is from about 2005, and was actually close to the Dodge/Chrysler oranges from that time.
I like the blue/white also. Someone in one of the championship rounds had a blue/white 4x4 that was awesome.
