Another wheelbase question: I am getting ready to stretch the frame on my '77 crew cab since it was put on a regular cab frame by a previous owner. I want to stretch it out to fit a short bed on it. I know that a crew cab short bed has a 150" wheelbase but I am wondering if this number is exactly 150" or if it's shorter or longer by a little bit. Could someone please measure their wheelbase and get back to me on this. I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

1977 f350 crew cab roof rust
I found a 1977 f350 crew with the typical rust problems I've read about. This one has rust all the way down both roof rails and up about an inch or so in some spots. One spot looked like it had a hole all the way thru but no rust on the inside of the cab or soft spots. I have seen threads and postings of the e150 roofs being grafted in and single cabs being grafted in. Wich way is the easiest. I have a couple friends that are fabricators and can do the welding and stuff for me But my question is how much forming does it take to get the e150 roof to fit. I would go to the jy and cut the roof off of an e150 maybe a couple inches below the drip rail and use that for the roof. Any help or links to builds would be great thank you.

1977 F-350 crew cab long bed 2wd. Finally found my unicorn. She's in pretty decent shape other than the roof needing to be replaced including drip rails. Surprising enough there isn't any rust in the floor boards front or back. Rebuilt 460 and what I would assume a c6. I have a buddy that's a fabricator welder he's going to come over and see where we should start on replacing the roof and drip rails.

Build idea
Looking at building a crew cab using the '61-'66 cab style and putting it on a '77 high boy frame. I saw a youtube video of a '65 4x4 crew cab with a flare side bed built for the forest service. Can anyone tell me what the frame length was on that truck? Are there any tutorials on how to stretch a frame, never done it before? I found the build thread for the '51 crew cab, are there any other similar build threads someone can direct me to? Glad I found this crew cab thread...Thanks, Ron.

hey guys new to this thread im going to look at 77 f250 crew cab this tuesday (smokin deal on it) and i already know it needs new rockers and door pillars due to rust through and was wondering if it would be worth the time and effort to weld new ones in or i did find a pretty mind cab to swap out. how hard is it to get these cabs swapped out? hope yall can help!

A smoking deal on a crew cab?? Woo Hoo. The rust is all relative. If you can do the cutting and welding and have time to go to the JY it will be cheaper than finding a crew cab, cab only. I have found a couple cabs and they are as much if not more than i paid for the whole truck. But then again I stole mine. Finding and purchasing a cab would be far easier and faster.
My truck needs a new roof and drip rails and some repair above the rear door as well as some repairs on the rear pillar on one side.

i talked to a couple of body shops and they were mentioning that if its rusted through it would need new supports or the panels and i never have done this extent of body work is that sound familiar to you at all or is it as simple as cuttin and welding it on? im handy with a welder and have plenty of time to spend on it.
