FPR screen and water sensor questions

Yesterday I had a few minutes and decided to check the screen in the FPR, was plugged solid. While I had the FPR pried away from the filter housing I (think) I also found the fuel leak I had been trying to find since day one with this truck, the botton sensor on the filter housing. Now for the questions. While cleaning the gunk off the screen it fell out on my catch rag and when fumble fingered me tried to get it I knocked down into no-mans land in the valley. Looked for 30 minutes and couldn't locate it. Had to drive the truck home from the shop so now running with no screen, should I be worried about finding a replacement screen and will Ford have it? Question two is the fuel leak it sure looked like fuel was coming out from around the wire boot on that bottom sensor, that one is water in fuel right? Seems like I read something about that a while back but couldn't find the thread. Thanks in advance, you guys are great.

I believe you are correct with the sensor. You may be able to just replace the sensor and be done with it.
As far as the screen I would personally get another one or get a magnet in the valley of death. A magnet should pick it up. If you have a particle get past the screen then straight to the injectors it goes (Iam pretty sure) and that is not a good thing.

Ya all have to buy the whole enchilada from Ford for aroung $36.00+- that will include the plug with the screen, O-ring and little plastic ball.

The water sensor is just a piece of plastic with threads and an O-ring. Be gentle when tightening this critter, they break easily. Another don't ask how I know. Today was not a good day for old men.

Was it not determined that when the fuel passes through the FPR screen it then goes back to the tank and not the injectors? If you follow the path the only place that it can go is out to the fuel tank. If that is true, I'm not sure why the screen is even there.

Yes I agree the fuel goes back to the thank and not to the injectors and the screen is to stop detritus that can obstruct the 0.035 orifice which is for vent air of the filter housing.
