7.3 IDI vs. 7.3 DI

Hey guys, My '94 F350 currently has a 7.3L IDI that is no good. I've found a new motor in my area, the only difference is that it is a Direct Injection. Is there anything different about the DI motor that would prevent a straight up swap into my truck? Any info. will be greatly appreciated.

big difference. It will not swap...easly. the 7.3 di motor i believe is the powerstroke that was introduced in 1994.5 and newer trucks.(i could be wrong) Ask and see if it is a powerstroke and what year it is..? If it is a powerstroke, It has a much more complicated injection system (uses oil pressure to creat and control fuel pressure in the injection process) with lots of high dollar electronic sensors, computers and injectors. Although it is a great motor and pritty reliable with alot more power and upgrades, It would be a night mare to swap. Different locations for acceries and lots of wiring involved. Unless you have a truck just like your style with the powerstroke already in it as a parts truck, it would be difficult. If you go ahead and try it, post your results cause I would like to know. Thanks and good luck

if you can get the truck the engine came out of for the full wiring harness, computer, and dash, it will be a fairly easy swap. if you can only get the engine, it will be a very costly nightmare

Yep if you want to install a DI, you'll be looking at swapping over and installing LOTS of wiring that isn't already there.

Thanks for the heads up buddy. Looks like I'll keep searching for an IDI motor.
