I read something on a web site about a nylon sprocket being used on the cam end of the timing chain. And when the sprocket ages, it comes apart, nylon bits all over, including over oil pump pickup screen. But it wasn't clear if this was on the old 462, or the 460. Would a '69 460 have this nylon part?

The gear is steel underneath and the teeth are nylon.. and when the gear goes.. your engine should start running like crap..

Cloyes makes a stock replacement steel gear set. or you can just get a double roller from any manufacturer for about $50.

Thanks, Uzi, that makes sense. The web site mentioned nylon teeth, and I just figured wrongly that the whole thing was nylon.
