Tell me what you think....

Well got my truck back together, after it snacked on the air cleaner retaining stud (chewed up by #4 cylinder). Did a valve job, put it back together, and started it. Well it started with know problem, but now it has a knock. Now I ask you, is it possible I flattened a rod bearing, or is it more likely I bent a push rod? I was in such a hurry to get it back together, and get it back over the Grapevine, I never checked to see if all the rods were strait. I would think that a 460's bottom end is alot stronger then a non-hardened 2 inch stud.

Tell me what you think. Anyone? Anyone?

Take the spark plug out of that cylinder and see if the knock stops or changes. Good chance you did some bearing/crank damage. depends on how long the engine ran with the bolt in there and how fast you were going.

There are also Stethascopes that can just about pin point that Knock. I'm betting against a lower end problem. More likely a collapsed lifter. Do you get a Miss with the knock, and maybe even some backfiring?

Bent Pushrods usually dont make any noise at all. Sometimes, if they are bent enough you'll hear a high pitched snapping sound.

Wrist Pins snap, Broken rings Click, Rod's thump, Mains Rap, Cracked Piston skirts clack, and all of those noises will change when you short the Spark plug wire.

It still runs smooth and feels like it has just as much power, but there is still a steady knock. From inside the cab it sounds like it's coming from down low, like from the right front tire. Obviously it is not the tire. I like the idea of the stethascope I'll try that. Thanks
