No one, anymore.
It was an E350, and when it caught fire it rear-ended a Crown Vic Police Interceptor which rear-ended a vintage Pinto. They all burst through a guard rail and went off-road like napalm canisters with wheels.
Emergency response was delayed by an ignition switch fire in the rural FDs older F350 brush truck.
The fireball was finally extinguished by a tidal wave of drooling from senior Ford management.
I was browsing around on Youtube.com and found several videos of Ford trucks completly engulfed in flames, I found at least five! I searched Ford Expedition and found one there and links to others, man, make sure you unhook that harness if not updated, gotta look at those videos!

I was told my 99 Expedition is not in the recall but by the looks of the website it is. What should I do??
Yes, your expy is in the recall, look to see if the switch has had the fix made or has been disconnected, if not disconnect the switch as shown at the begining of this thread. If your not sure how to do it, take it to your local Ford dealer ASAP and they'll do it for you. In the mean time as a precaution don't park it inside or near your house, just in case due to the risk of fire.
Just cut the wire and add a fuse holder and a fuse.
This is all the recall does...just that they do it with additional
wire and a non-replaceable fuse.
When you disconnect the plug - your cruse is inoperative.
If the fuse blows, the switch has gone bad and has brake fluid
in it and thats what catches fire...you will have to replace the switch
if that is possible or replace the master cylinder...

Yep that's an option however Ford wouldn't recognize this as a fix. Cover your A$$ and have Ford do the fix as they're required to do by the governent.
I just had my 98 Lincoln done, took 15 minutes. I watched the tech do it, just to make sure they were not just unplugging the harness again and saying it was fixed. Not a big deal, glad to have it finally overwith.
I thought so too...all they did was unplug the harness. This ticked me off as this was not a fix. i understand the need for prevention but come on...
Then they supposedly replaced the switch (actually they did nothing). this really tick off the RSM when he found out. Then the last year or so they they didn't have the parts. Ford finally sent me a letter asking why the recall had not been performed and I called the 800# on the letter and told them, the dealer called me 4 days later and they suddenly had the parts. Simple to replace and add the new harness.

This recall went out a few years back.. had the one in my 2000 changed out.. I was in and out of the dealer in about an hour.. But if it is on back order ou will wait and have no cruise for a while.. Bt better no cruise then a fire under your hood while your in the house eating dinner..
"Just cut the wire and add a fuse holder and a fuse."
Better be the amperage and blow speed of the fuse Ford used for the fix, or it might ignite the brake fluid before the fuse blows. Also, if it's the usual crapaftermarket fuse holder and is crimped in place that's just another potential failure point. Use solder, heatshrink, and good shop practices.
If the inside of the original switch is moist with brake fluid, that gets replaced too, not that I'd suggest anyone do that themselves (before showing up for the recall with their cable safely unplugged).
I had no choice on my truck...the vin says its an 88, while it is actually a 97 that is under the recall. They will not do the fix. see my sig....

About 2-3 years ago, I had just heard about this recall when I walked outside of the building where I work and noticed something burning underneath a black Expedition. Then I noticed that the "something burning" was actually dripping from the engine compartment. I guess it was brake fluid or something (does that burn?).
I ran inside and had the receptionist sound the alarms & call the fire department, then I ran back outside to watch this thing burn.
At any rate, the truck was engulfed in flames from the windshield forward within minutes. There were a couple of small explosions, then a slightly larger explosion as the fire ate away to the fuel lines. The fuel tank never blew, thankfully, as the fire department did well to put it out in the time that they did.
Unfortunately, the truck was parked between two vehicles. Both of those vehicles were short a couple of tires each, which fused with the pavement, and had some pretty severe heat/burn damage to their exteriors after it was all said and done.
My expy wasn't on the recall list at that time, but I guess Ford changed their minds and I just got a letter in the mail a few weeks ago, which was supposedly a second notice about the recall on my truck. So I took it in and the part was on back order and all he would do is disconnect my cruise control. I said "no thanks" because I didn't want to wait for that, but now that I think about it I think I'll disconnect it myself tonight.
