Tire load range questions

Tire load range questions
Been shopping for (and learning about) tires all week. Now that I have my lift all straightened out (literally) I would like to put a larger tire on the truck. I am currently running BFG A/Ts, size LT285/75 R16 E rated for 3750#s. I would like to go with a LT315/75 R16 but I am having trouble finding that size in the E load range. Seems like every tire I find is the D load range rated for 3195#s.
So what's the deal, all of these big PSDs I see running around with large diameter and width tires are useless because of the load range of the tire? Am I correct in my assumption that once you put large tires on a PSD then you might as well have a Toyota?
How important is the load range rating?
Will the truck handle crappy with load range D tires? Will the side walls blow out and result in an accident?
Since selling the boat all we tow now days is the jet ski. The whole thing weighs maybe 800#s. It's so light you never know it's back there. Still, that's not to say that I won't have to tow something some day that weighs more. Who knows what could happen. Can I use load range D tires or is load range E a must? I know that Ford says not to use anything other than load range E but they also say to not mess with the air box or put a chip on or lift the truck. I've done all three of those things and the truck still runs.
Any thoughts?

i know the hankook dynapro mt's are. thats what i wanted but i couldn't get anyone to get right with me and i got a smokin deal on my nitto's. i would tow anything with my d rated tires and if i ever get anything really heavy to tow like a 32' double decker enclosed trailer i would get some 20's with lower profile tire to handle the load/

Bruce, how does your truck handle with the Ds? Does it feel wobbly or squirrely?
Where are those Hankooks made? I was thinking about them but I am not sure if I want the name "Hankook" on the side of my American iron. I know, that's silly I guess but not to me. Still, I appreciate the tip and will give them a look.
So far I really like the:
Nitto Terra Grapplers
Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ
Toyo Open Country
and one that is really starting to get me
Dick Cepek Fun Country II with black walls
Trouble is none are E rated, at least not from what I can see online. I am going to stop by a tire store today and pick their brains a little.

i don't know where they are made but i see alot of them at work (ups) and the hankooks are nice tire and the only one's offered in 10 ply. i have the terra's now and have had the fc-II's previously and both are nice. i wanted another set of fc-II's but even at my cost through rough country i could compare the price with the nitto's.

It's frustrating isn't it?
Thinking I might just make a run back to Texas Truck Works and let them sort this out for me. They did an awe inspring job for me with the lift. I can't imagine that they would steer me wrong on the tires.
