Smile Safeway Gas/Bio-Diesel

Based on a comment by a member a couple of days ago re an Oregon Safeway station taking a survey re Bio-Diesel I called Safeway gas station division.

The young man that I spoke with stated that Safeway is putting Bio into two (2) stations in Alameda, CA. in August of this year. He does not know anything about other locations in CA of other states nor does he know what the price of the Bio will be or the percentage of BIO/Diesel.

I know that this is not a lot of info but it does support the Oregon rumor,
(For lack of better words) that Safeway is in fact making an effort to market Bio-diesel.

I don't know how many Safeway stations there are in other states, but CA has a good number of them. When I took my trip last year I obs. them to be in Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and I'm not sure about Nevada and Utah.

We'll just have to wait and see.

I live in Western Washington, my nearest Safeway has bio-blend and it's my first choice because of it. It was B20 until late last fall, now the stickers say B5, and the fine print says "may be up to 5% bio". It's usually a little bit cheaper than other diesel stations, plus you get the lubricity advantage of bio. With B20 I ran it straight, but with the B5 I've started adding 2 stroke oil again.

That is somewhat good news. It appears that Safeway is working it's way down the western coast. Unfortunatly they are opening two stations in the San Francisco area plus there is already and independant Bio dealer in the same region.

Right now I would settle for 5% Bio then I could encourage Safeway to increase it.

Thanks for the response.
