What Tranny ??

My A4LD has gone completely out and im thinking of swapping in a manual. What tranny should i look for? I have an 87 bii Eddie Bauer with a 2.9 V6. Im hoping to get the whole thing so i can get the pedal,flywheel,ECU,shifter,etc... Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated! THANKS!

i think most of the bII's and rangers had the fm146 5sp manual tranny,i have one in mine,it has held up very well, just look for a donor vehicle that has everything and just swap it all out..i think anything from 86-89 will work,i'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong

In most circles, the best transmission for these is an M5OD. FM146 is acceptable, but they have input shaft bearing problems. Others (FM145, TK5) are a different length, which would mean lengthening/shortening driveshafts.

hey man stay with an automatic, the FM series or the M5od are great boxes, but you will run into all kind of swap issues like..... hydraulic clutch setup, possible exhaust routing issues, transfer case issues and the like, and the AL4d is actually a good tranny, it was in fords for many years before your B2 was made
