I have a 429ci that I pulled out of a 1968 or 1969? LTD last summer and before I rebuild it I wanted to know what I'll have to work with. So if somebody can decipher this codes for me I would be very grateful.

Head #:
C8VE-E

Also will there be any more #'s that I will need in order to find out the specifics on this engine?

I too would like to find what vehichle my 429 origonated from an just what type of motor it is(power, specs ect.). Im guessing that a nearby major Ford dealer would be able to help.

 

how's it going? the heads i know have 2.08 intake and 1.64 exhaust valves. not sure exactly but i think the cumbustion chamber size is 75 cc or close to it. any info you want about a big block ford go to http://www.385-series.com on the bottom of the page there are a couple of things to click on and one is info i believe click here and it will tell you what every number is for instance your heads it will tell you cc size, valve size, port size, and it will tell you different compression ratios for your engine and other engines with your heads it is a very good site. listen all you ford fans. don't go visiting this 385 web site and think your getting correct info. this person i am definitly convinced doesn't know much about big block fords. he doesn't even know that the code for the cobra jet drag pack option is one letter ( R ) that's the only code and not CY or CV as he has listed.. that's just one for instance. there are many other mistakes,,, not enough time at this point to list any more... so PLEASE don't come out of this forum with a fat head thinking things are right lots of information is incorrect!!!........ later C.J.

AMEN CJ!!! What you have stated, I totally agree with.
It is nice to have a Website that can give good basic info on a Big Block Ford, the problem lies with the research and not here-say to prove what is technically right. Alot of people use this and other literature to help in their quest for information only to be proved wrong with either hurt feelings or worse, an empty wallet. I personally don't know CJ, but since I've been answering questions on this site, I've found that he answers most any 385 series question with utmost certainty on correctness.

thanks Todd! i try and do my best, even sometimes i'm not right. but i try to stay on top of the old stuff, and i answer them to the best of my knowledge. and i miss some things or just type in one thing while thinking of another, i bet that's happen to you too. have been messing with big blocks for many years now and have literally have 2 tons of engine parts 429/460. 5 complete engines, 20 pair heads, a few spare blocks, and about 25 pairs of small block heads all older than 1973. keep up the good work yourself you know quite a bit also. got to go. later. fourth position
(engineering group)
a=chassis
b=body
e=engine

the fifth letter after the hyphen, typically means the change level. the letter "a" usually means original status of the part. "b" would indicate at least one engineering change. ford used the entire alphabet for this, except for the letter "i", when the alphabet runs out, it starts over again at "aa", "ab", "ac" and so on

every part on your engine will have a code on it. if you stand in front of your engine, on the left side of the block down behing the exhaust manifold will be the block code.
