Late model 460 Mods and MAF 460

LAST EDITED ON 25-Apr-01 AT 00:00 AM (EST)[p]Hey guys

Ive got a posting on 1996 and older F-series trucks and i ve gotten some help, but now it might be time to pick at the experts for some information. What we are planning is different from the norm or at least it goes further than most people will go.

I have a 1996/97 F-250HD 4x4 converted to F-350 Extended cab SBed, it has a 460 EFI which used to be backed by an E4od and now has a ZF 5 spd behind it asnd 4.10's. I have 186000 miles, ported heads, Doug Thorley headers, SCJ valves 2.19 I and 1.76 E, 24 lb injectors (factory), open element K&N. I have the F3TE heads.

I want to bump up the compression to 9.5 or 9.8:1. I beleive this motor came with 8.9:1 (so the ford dealer claims)but correct me if im wrong. Anyone know my CC's or recommend a piston mfger. I think i have the same combustion chamber configuration as the 88-93 motors so valve reliefs so be strait forward. Im also interested in running an early 429 CJ cam or police cam, any recommendations? Would you get a cam custom ground instead because of the EFI and the compression ratio? thought about the .284/.284 @.50 grind. Good from 1500-5000, I tow alot of weight on the highway and around town, so this grind may be too wild. Opperating RPM's have been 3000 rpm at 65 mph on highway, usually from 1000-4500 5k at the most.

I am in the process of compiling all the parts from a 1997 F-350 CA MAF 460 truck, they made em beleive it or not, i didn't till i saw one.

I have the tubes, MAF meter, two O2 sensors and computer. Still saving for the Main Harness from computer and the Engine Harness all the way to injectors. Any missed points here? I need all the nit picking i can get to catch any problems before the arise at an inopportune time. As to the MAF im certain enough in the convert that i think i may pull the green monster over on May 1 and start.

Any help is useful
Dusty

where did you get the stuff for MAF for a 460? and check into ford motorport for some cams, they have some good ones for 460s.

Late model 460 Mods and MAF 460

LAST EDITED ON 25-Apr-01 AT 05:30 PM (EST)[p]Hey Mike,

Actually i got the tubes and air sensor from a wrecked mid-1997 CA MAF 460 F-350, if i had had the money i would have bought the motor and all the harnesses, with that said. I am now in the process of buying the injector harness, 2 O2 sensors and the Main harness. I did get the computer from Ford already. Thanks for the tip on Motorsport, I was wondering how different cams had worked for others in real life too, Im kind of exploring right now since the factory cam is so detuned.

Thanks
Dusty
