Odometer digits

I've got a couple of old fords ('78 and '79) Neither of them will show more than 99,999.9 miles on the odometer(6 digits including tenths). Does anyone know when the Odometers switched to 7 digits? I'm looking at buying an '88 E350 Pathfinder 4x4 conversion, and the PO says it's only got 60K on it. Is the Odometer in a '88 show 6 or seven digits? Is there another way to see how many times an odometer has rolled over? PO of my '78 E350 says it rolled over 3 times, (and I'm not too far from a 4th) if that's possible... No major work ever done on this van as far as I was told. Any hints to figuring out mileage on a vehicle like this?

Thanks!!!

Talking milage

run a Carefax report...last time I did it it showed the milage at each ownership change, so it should be easy to figure how many miles it has. Even if it is a million mile speedo, like my 95 ClubWagon 4x4, I'm now installing a PowerStroke and along with it the cluster from the donor vehicle....soon I won't even know my correct milage.

Thanks Quigoline! Don't know why I never thought of that. I'm off to get the VIN...

For the record 89-90 has 6digit odometer, and I bought it! Carfax report looked good, I'm the 3rd owner. $3500 for a Pathfinder 4x4 conversion that is very straight w/ good paint. I think I got a steal! (Knock on wood) It does have a couple issues that I'll be posting a few q's about if I don't figure it out on my own.
