Hey guys,

I just picked up a 71 with a transplanted 460, power steering and power brakes. I wanted to know where the serial numbers are on the block and heads? I just want to make sure it is a 460 and try to find out what year it is. Once I get the numbers, what can I reference then to.

The block's casting numbers are on the passenger side of the block, just behind the starter. Look for numbers like D1VE, DOVE & 6015.
The heads casting numbers for a 429-460 are located just above the exhaust manifold's and just below the valve cover gasket rail, look for at least a four digit code, C8VE, C9VE, DOVE-C and etc. When you do find your casting #'s come back here & post them, someone will be able to give you more info on your engine, if in fact it is a 460.
