I think they are some what right because right after i pulled my cat my truck would fall on its face on heavy accelaration. After 2-3 days it "relearned" and ran much better than with the cat. I would never go back to having a cat
An easy pass would be to gut the cat but the empty cat still causing poor flow with the chamber affect but you could sleeve the gutted cat. with either 3.5 or even better 4 inch pipe. just cut the cat body where 4 inch pipe will slide thru then weld the pipe to the body on each end. So pretty much you have an empty shell with a pipe going right thru the center.
Tim, thats a good idea, Im going to do it, I only gutted the cat. how much is significative the poor flow for the chamber effect?
Really I don't think you will feel any improvement over just a gutted cat but if you have the time and it might be worth it. might drop EGT's a few degree's
I did not think you would pass emissions without it. Just the visual hu? Ill give it a go.
Any one know if emissions standards are the same for all states? Except of course California.
here's a question for ya-
i keep hearing that Cali doesnt require diesel's to be smogged...
is this true? cause my truck has alot of smog crap that i dont want to leave on there...

This is what I wanted to do, but I don't have the equipment. I don't know what the inside diameter of the cat pipe is. I was thinking about having a muffler shop widen the cat pipe and slide a straight pipe through. I would then clamp the ends of the cat where the exhaust pipe attaches.
RÖENTGEEP - I'd be very interested in how you do this. Pictures and a write-up would be nice, too. Would you take some measurements of the pipe inside diameter and length used?

I think that the stock diameter outside of the cat is 3.5", and as I understood about what TJ wrote, is that you have to go to a muffler shop to wide the inside and outside of the cat, to the diameter you want to (3.5 or better 4") and then slide a straigth pipe through, as you also mentioned, and welding it with the cat, and thats it.
oh, heres a real easy mod- i removed a dead cat from the driveway earier LOL. all joking aside, when i pulled out of shop from removing cat i floored it and all the built up soot blew out and i couldnt see the muffler shop, literally
