Please help fuel/wire/electrical problem

The red and black wire going into my inertia switch is very hot to the touch. it actually started smoking and then my truck lost power. as i was pulling into a parking lot smoke cameup from the passenger foot area. i pulled to check it out and it melted thru the old home made inertia switch. i went to local junkyard and got a new fuel inertia switch but the black/red wire going to it stills get really hot and seems dangerous. the truck start but when i push the gas pedal it dies. any ideas how to fix this. pleas let me know. thanks

You've got to figure out why the fuel pump(s) is (are) drawing so much current. Do you know if you have a single in tank high pressure pump or a dual pump (low Pressure in tank with a high Pressure in line pump) set up?

Use an ohmmeter to check for a short to ground between the inertia switch and the pump(s).

Check the connector on the high pressure fuel pump and make sure it is not corroded. You have to take it out of the frame and remove the boot to do so.

screech...... hold up, the inertia switch wires actually come from the relays on the passenger side front fenderwell, chances are you may have a wire rubbed through the insulation at the firewall or your relay is about to close for life.... I have experience with this one.... I almost replace my entire fuel system due to a couple of scratched through wires,
