Any body know of a good shop that rebuilds diesel engines? My motor went to ***** yesterday on Rte. 50 in Annapolis. She was running fine and then all of a sudden lost oil pressure and the rest is history...along with the motor. Any good recomendations would be greatly appreciated.
How many miles ya have on it, Jason? How long did it run without oil pressure?
The motor only has 140K miles. Which is surprising because any other 7.3 diesel I've driven has been bullet proof. The truck was orginally owned by a logging company and they had to put a new motor in it. They probably ran the orginal motor into the ground and probably beat the snot outta this one too. I purchased the truck from my uncle and he only used it to haul trash/junk. However, I did get a couple of leads through people at my work that will save me some money on a new motor. Ran for approx. 10 seconds w/out oil pressure. Spun a bearing maybe???

In 10 seconds - I doubt it. I watched these things go for 15-30 minutes with no oil at all before ceasing up....and then after cooling off, start again!

I'll rebuild it................... it'll give me a project and something to do
I'm all for it, but I was told that the 7.3 diesels can't be sleeved and therefore can't be rebuilt. If you know anything different please let me know.
a 7.3 should shut off before any real damaged is caused because of the fact its a huei. it needs oil to feed injectors. no oil, no fuel, no run. but the 7.3 cannot be sleeved. but it can be bored. check with blackwidowdiesel. they have rebuild kits and stronger rods too.
