Brake cleaner will hurt the clear coat. First use soap and water. Then maybe try some westley's bleach white on it. If you can get them fairly clean then invest is a mothers powerball with some clear coat polish and go to town. Don't use any kind of aluminum wheel polish because it will haze the clear coat. When you finish use a product called "wheel wax" it is formulated for wheels. It can deal witht eh heat generated from brakes and it actually repels brake dust.

Westley's bleach white should take care of it. I swear by the stuff.

I have had good luck with Maguiars wheel cleaner, just don't leave it on the wheel too long, it says it may damage the wheel, but I have never experienced this and I have used it for anout three years now.

I've used Westley's for years. Gets the tires real black too. I can't use any type of wheel-wet products where I live due to the dust so I just have to keep the wheels as black as possible with no sheen.

before I went to the harsh stuff, I'd try a regular cleaner wax. Most one coat waxes have a polishing agent to make the paint shiny and should lift most all of your brake dust right off and leave your wheels with a nice coating of wax.

Look, see these two tow hooks? They look like tusks. And what kind of animal has tusks?

there's a very fine line between not listening, and not caring. I like to think that I walk that line every day of my life.

Best bet is a degradable, citrus based, wheel cleaner + a pressure washer followed by wiping with a soft towel. Harsher products will harm the clear on the wheels which will result in disappointment.
