Question Excursion 4X4 front axle actuator

I have a 2001 Excursion 4X4 Limited Diesel with 127,000 and the 4X4 does not enguage. The lights on the dash come on but the front axle does not engauge. I have heard this is a common problem and the front axle actuator is usually the issue. Does anyone have a repair procedure for checking this and replacing or any other suggestions to diagnose the issue?

Thumbs up 4X4 not working

I took my Excursion to someone that could help me and found out both front hubs were frozen and the seals dried up. I had them both replaced at a Ford Dealership two years and 35,000 miles ago but have not had to use the system. I found out the hard way that you should activate the 4X4 system at least onece per month and run with the hubs locked out in the summer. Please pass this along to anyone who might need the advise. Thanks.

Hi, for good exposure it`s best to repost this in the Excursion forum: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum29/
Not many lurk in here as it`s for just intros and user announcements and not any tech info.

Thumbs up Thanks

I did post it on the Excursion forum but thanks for the reply. It turned out that both front hubs were frozen up and seals dried out and leaking vacuum.
