Bear, I gotta disagree. His well worn engine is suffering blowby. IMHO
The pcv is working correctly. The way I understand it, the filler cap on the drivers side is vented, the pcv on the passenger side has a ball check valve for one way flow. The intake or carb base in my case, is connected to the pcv by a hose. It is the vacuum from the intake that is sweeping the engine vapors from inside the engine block and sending it to the bores to be burned. In his case, the extra oil from blowby is leaving the oil deposit in the air breather.
The simple pcv test is to shake it and listen for the ball inside rattling.
