Why would oil collect in the air cleaner - under the breather from the valve cover? Should I replace the cap that contains the breather? Not alot of oil, maybe a tablespoon or so.
Thanks Dan

You PCV system isn't working properly. Air flow should be from the air cleaner into the engine crankcase and out the other valve cover thru the Positive Crankcase Valve and into the intake system. I would suspect and bad valve.

Thanks Bear, I'll head down and pick up a new valve and filter for the side of the air cleaner.

Bear, I gotta disagree. His well worn engine is suffering blowby. IMHO

The pcv is working correctly. The way I understand it, the filler cap on the drivers side is vented, the pcv on the passenger side has a ball check valve for one way flow. The intake or carb base in my case, is connected to the pcv by a hose. It is the vacuum from the intake that is sweeping the engine vapors from inside the engine block and sending it to the bores to be burned. In his case, the extra oil from blowby is leaving the oil deposit in the air breather.

The simple pcv test is to shake it and listen for the ball inside rattling.

John,
If this is the case, then the only thing that would fix it is a rebuild? Wanted to do this winter but it has to wait until next.
I did the PCV so we'll see, had the incorrect one in anyway.

There are worse things then blowby. Keep plenty of oil in the crankcase and drive on. You might drive it another 5 years it you don't add too many a year.

That's nice news!! We only use the truck for occasional errands and in the summer we'll be towing our trailer, 6,000# or so. we already keep a close eye on fluids in it, so no change there..
They are fun to drive!!
