Dealing with "New Car Fever"
I have a 2007 that I have had for about a year. It is a great truck with no issues. However, I feel like I get New Car Fever all the time. I have had several cars in the past couple years so I really need to stop this. I even find myself looking at old cars on Craigslist and being interested in them. LOL How do you guys deal with the fever and keep your autos for 6-7 years? If I don't stop this I will never get ahead financially.

I've only has my liscence for 9 years, and I've had 8 vehcles in that time. I still own three of them.
I don't know how you stop it, I haven't yet.
You are right that you need to keep this under control for the sake of your finances. Try buying some old junky trucks every year or so. You don't lose as much, and you can have fun fixing them.

some people would rather spend their money on a new truck every other year and rent a place i guesss... i like buying a old truck that is getting more valuable for evey bit of work i put into it and owning a house.. then the depreciation of a new truck... sad how many people buy into that garbage.. i think they might be trying to impress people, but being in large ammounts of debt never impresses anyone, people can see that the bank owns what you drive not you..

Thats not a bad idea. I have decide to just do a couple major mods in the next couple years. For instance, in about a year or so I am going to have Katzkin Leather installed. This will make it a whole new truck and keep me at bay. Also, I am going to swap my center console, add electric fans, and maybe add some cool LED lighting. I am hoping spacing these out will kepp my excitement about the truck up.

The best way to get rid of new car fever? Don't visit this site. Don't watch television. Don't visit the dealerships. Don't hang around with friends that drive new vehicles.
Keep your current ride feeling like new. And avoid the temptation to add on any aftermarket crap. After the newness of the mods wear off, they usually crack, rust, corrode, squeak or rattle, or stop working altogether whch makes the vehicle feel junky.
My '06 Lariat replaced a F150 that I had for 16 years, and except for the rust starting over the wheelwells, it still felt close to new, even at 170,000 miles. I fully expect my '06 to last at least 15 years before I need to replace it.
JMO, and it works for me. Haven't had a car/truck payment since 1995. Saved enough to pay cash for the '06 or I wouldn't have bought it.
