sounds like a fair price to me bud. thats the cost of a single cylinder head. ive seen 4.6's personally with over 200k on them still running strong!

If you are able to hear it run and it sounds good that $600 price is decent. My 4.6L has 125K on it and runs strong and quiet. If the oil was changed at reasonable intervals and it was never badly overheated you should get a fine engine. Change the exhaust manifold studs to the new design before putting it in your truck- I just had to replace the manifolds and studs on mine- big pain in the butt with it in the ruck.

I'd go for it, especially if you/friends plan on installing it....if you can't hear it run, might benefit you to pull the oil pan and check for sludge and *****.

For 600 bucks I'd swap engines. Pull the oil pan as a rule, and don't turn the engine upside down before you do it! Shtuff flows downhill...

Rebuilding only one area of an engine is a fine way to experience failure in the other bits.
