429 truck engines

Does anyone know if the 429 ci engines installed in the big trucks through the 80s are the same basic engine as the 385 family? By this I mean can you directly replace one with a 460?

Thanks

if its a 429 then its part of the 385 series....same exact block as a 460. to make a 460, just find a 460 crank, pistons, and rods. hope this helps.

YES, you can directly replace the engines.
429/460 are the same engines except for the Crankshaft and pistons. To turn a 429 into a 460, get 460 crank, rods and pistons... to turn a 460 into a 429, get the 429 crank, rods and pistons. The blocks, and everything else in/on the blocks are Identical..... have fun

From what I was told a few years back, the 429 heavy truck engine IS essentially the same as the 429/460 engine family. One of the things that makes the heavy truck engine different froma pass. car/truck 429/460 is that it uses a FORGED STEEL CRANK, but to use it in a "regular" 429/460 you have to mill down the snout where the harmonic balancer resides in order to use the passenger car/truck balancer. There could be other differences but this is the only one that I recollect. I hope this helps.

just to add something small, the rods on the 429 and 460 are the same, the better ones are scj and truck motor rods

Thanks guys. I dont have the truck (it has a scissor/dump bed) but may be able to get it cheap. Just wanted to know if it would be much trouble to get a motor in it.
