460-400 swap

Hey guys ive done a search and all i can find is the 400-460 swap. What im wondering is are there any problems with this swap. I have the transmission and bell housing in the truck and am going to swap that 400 in. The 460 is blown and the 400 is free and runs great, hence the swap. I have the big block bellhousing from the 460. Will the engine just bolt right up to the tranny? also will the 460 motor mounts work? Thanks in advance.

small block perches will work. As a word of encouragement, John Kaase used the Ford 400 in the Engine Masters competition this year and came in a close second. It also has a longer stroke than the 460. IE good torque.

no performance hit on this one.....the truck had a blown 460 in it that i drove for 6 months, seized wrist pin, broken piston skirts, collapsed lifters, amongst other things. I also have a 351w 4barrel with 4.10s in the axle in another truck and it has no more power than my old 80 351M with 3.07s. Both were 3/4ton 2whl drive supercab automatics. I know that the 400 isnt a race car engine in stock trim, but this is for my 4x4 for playing around off road and towing the occasional trailer. Even with my dads old 460 i was never too impressed by it....mind you it walked all over his 2000 chev with a 6litre. The other reason for the 400 over the 460 is it drops almost 200 lbs off the front end which i like. Thanks again guys.

Perches type 1: 302, 351W, 351C, and 351M/400
Perches type 2: FE and 300 6
Perches type 3: 429/460

2wd and 4x4 are different from each other.

So if your truck originally had a 351M/400 but had an adapter kit used to put the 460 in, I believe it should just bolt in, but if the truck originally had a 460 from the factory, then you need to find a type 1 Perch pair, and your motor mounts will fit into the perches.

The "perches" or "frame stands are between the frame(front cross member) and the motor mounts.

Aha!
ok. clear t me, thanks!
(actually: quite simple to fabricate yourself, as the rubbers are on the engine mounts itself... )?
