New and need help with 03 F250 5.4 ALT?

Hi all, My name is Richard Davis(43) I am retired from the Navy and live in Indiana. I work for Praxair as a Field Service TECH. I grew up in Rushville Indiana in rural Rush county, married with 2 girls 4&6. The bad part is I am also stage 4 lung cancer. Was given 6 months to live almost 2 year ago. Told those Doctors to kiss mine in 15 years LOL.

Have a 2003 F250 with 5.4 V8. Replaced the altinator cause it was putting out over 16 volts and lost the gages and the radio intermittently. Replaced with new altinator in the beginng I was only getting 11.5 volts, now I am getting anywheres between 11.5 to 15.7 volts and the same thing with the gages and radio. When the voltage was steady at 11.5 volts, my gages and radio worked as they should have, but the battery light on the idiot panel was light. Did I get a defective altinator? Is there a relay that turns the regulator on/off that may be defective? Have I fried some computer? I am going to replace the altinator again tomorrow and see what happens. Any advice is greatly appreciable.

Thanks Rich

Sounds like a bad alternator. I would also check the cables good on both ends, for corrosion and a tight fit. Especially the grounds. There is also a large ALT. fuse in the fuse panel under the hood. Make sure is is ok.

Oh and by the way, welcome to the forum Rich. Hopefully you will be around here for a long time to come!!
