460 id and 400 to 460 swap

Could someone tell me what these numbers mean?
Head # D3VE-A2A
Block # D9TE-AB
I'm assuming that the nine in the block # means that it is a 79 block. There is a counterweight attached to the inside of the harmonic balancer. What flywheel, clutch etc. will I need to mate this into a 77 1/2 F250 4x4 with an NP435. It is currently mated to a C-6. The motor came out of a 78 supercab 2x4. Will I really have to get differant brackets to mount the power steering pump and alternator. Are there any stock motors with brackets that will work or will I have to get them from L&L. I believe I read that stock exhaust manifolds can work if you get the right side out of a van. Is this true? If I get L&L headers what are the pros and cons between the inside the frame headers and the fenderwell exit headers. I'm concerned that my tires might rub the fenderwell exit headers. I thought the fenderwell exit headers might be easier to route the exhaust, if I drop them off in front of the rear tires, since I have the side gas tank. I'm currently running a 4" suspension lift and 35" x 12.5" tires. When these wear out I will probably add a 3" body lift and 38" x 15" tires or a little wider.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've had this motor sitting in my garage for a year now. It's time to do something.

Your heads are '72-74 with 91.4cc chambers. Hedman makes cheap, good headers that will fit your application. I've been using a set on my Bronco for 15 years. Get the L&L motor mounts. I've tried others and they don't last. I got all my brackets from boneyards.

Thanks for the info.
What vehicles should I be looking for to get the power steering pump and alternator brackets?
What flywheel and clutch parts will I need to mate the 79 460 to the NP435?
Has anyone tried the motor mounts from Performance Unlimited?

Mine came from a '73 Mercury; should be the same as a Lincoln and there are plenty of those out there. (for right now - smaller boneyards with the good stuff are rapidly going away) I run air and everything was plug&play, with the exception of a couple of belt lengths.

Jeff, your 79 460 is externally balanced and the 390 flywheel will not work on this and later engines, the 390 was internally balanced as were the earlier 460 engines before the 79 model year. Thanks for the info. I been looking for a used flywheel, rear sump oil pan and accessory brackets but haven't had any luck yet. A guy at the boneyard today tried to tell me that a stock 460 flywheel won't work on a 400 bell because it is slightly larger in diameter. I'm not so sure this is true. Everyone else here has told me that it will if I put a spacer between the engine and bell.
I stumbled across a set of c8ve heads today at the same boneyard. I'm going back tomorrow to pull them off and check them out. Does anyone know the chamber size and compresion of these heads.

The 460 flywheel will be the same diameter but it is 1/2" thicker towards the tranny. The 400 bell's casting around the bolt bosses will contact the bellhousing without the spacer. Your Np435 will also bottom out within the crankshaft without a total depth of 4-7\16. I have heard of some folks shortening the input shaft and bearing retainer but haven't tried this myself.
