Got a Q? what purpose is the retaining clip serve on the oil pump drive shaft on a 1969 stock 460 engine?

It prevents the shaft from falling into the pan if you pull the distributor out.

Allows you to remove the distributor without the shaft falling into the oil pan or coming out with the distributor.
