In my opionion it is MSD over Jacobs. You should be happy with a 6A ign. modual and 8202 blaster coil. I actually got Jacobs wires because the shop owner said they are the same and have a better "no hassle gaurantee".
I can tell you one thing for sure though. It's going to be hard to see any changes until you go to headers, Doug Thorley or L&L are good. If it can't breathe...

I'd say go with an MSD billet distributor, and a 6A box.. If you rev it high and hard, go with the 6AL (with rev limiter)for a little more insurance.
I had a bad experience with Mallory, so Im no longer recommending them to anyone..not that I would, over MSD.
Jacobs, MSD, and Accel all have good wires.. I prefer the MSD SuperConductors, with the spiral wound metal cores.. I have had good luck with them, and they test right at the advertised 50ohms/foot resistance.

I'm on my second Mallory Comp 9000 mechanical advance ignition in 15 years. The first one is still fine, just looked crummy after 10 years. You set it up once, and forget about it. If you're after whatever economy is available from a 460 in a 4X4 (7-9mpg is the norm in my Bronco), I'd suggest a distributor with vacuum advance.
If you don't use a filter between any ignition module and the power source, you can have spiking problems. Big stereos have killed more ignition modules than anything else.

Ahhhhhh, see... I went with the dual point mech. advance.. which proceeded to grenade on me 4 days after installing... YES, I installed it correctly.. Mallory wouldnt take it back, even under their warranty...thus, I dont like Mallory right now.
Yes, if you go with electronic, get a filter. Voltage fluctuations can make life miserable with an electronic ignition..
As for economy, it can be done.. just got new 460 in my Galaxie, C6, 1:1 output in drive gear, 3.00:1 rear end; I get between 16 and 17 mpg in hilly terrain..while still running 14sec. quarter miles. Unfortunately, it takes a lot of time and money.....Grrr.

if you are gonna be runnin a manual, i would definately go with the msd 6al box because of the rev limiter. first time yer runnin hard and you miss a gear, you'll thank yourself. and i think its cheap insurance for other things like a broken u joint or rearend, but ya know, thats just my $0.02
