No more Diesel Power mag

I just cancelled my subscription by phone, had just over two years left to go. They prolly won't miss me.

The cover: an F-450 touted as, "Haul Anything! F-450 Daily Driver", with two bicycles in the bed and the rear duals replaced with 10-lug singles. It does have a mega-buck paint job for the SEMA Show.

Inside, another hot-rod Cummins article. Project 12-valve (Cummins) had 2 1/2 pages dedicated to getting new Nitto Dura-Grapplers. Tweaking the injection pump an an older Cummins. An interview with Dan Scheid who specializes in..... Cummins Diesels.

I found nothing at all about towing, improving mileage, dependability, practical do-it-yourself articles (non-Cummins related), etc. I've never seen them test any aftermarket parts and include good data to support the purchase of the evaluated product.

There are however several dozen pages of glossy advertisements that would easily rival any female oriented magazine.

I too have the most recent magazine - And enjoyed it until i reflected upon the points you mentioned. Your so right!! Its pretty lame now that i think of it. They had a recent write up in the diablo tuner (more like the diaBLOW). Thats really when i was like "ok i know more about diesels then these idiots..." They praised the diablo! Not one article about SCT, Spartan tech, DP tuner etc. The real diesel good stuff.

I'd give you rep points if they'd let me (aparently we agree to often ). I let my one year sub. expire about 8 months ago. Great mag if you own a Dmax or Cummins, I guess...

Last months was awesome! Double overtime and two hopped up 6.0s. They do focus on the Duras and Cummins a little too much. Yes, too many ads. They only reason I don't cancel is because I've found no other decent mag. Diesel Performance is even worse in my opinion and 8-Lug is horrid. Good thing my girlfriends mom paid for my DP subscription, lol.

Diesel Tech Magazine (http://dieseltechmag.com) is a little more realistic. For example, February's issue has an article about installing Mini-Me injectors in a 7.3L PSD.

I gave up reading diesel power too. It got to where it was an ad (Banks) and car show magazine. The Diesel Tech Magazine looks good, I'll give it a try.

I wish they would show more technical stuff. They got a lot about them getting that beat up 12v to run good which must be one of the DP staff as much as they work on it. I have no interest in seeing all these lifted trucks that have all these parts I cannot afford on them. They never have anything on my IDI, and that 12V stuff I could use if they would tell you how instead of just saying "we put in bigger injectors and now it has more power.." Heck, some of them now talk about the dyno numbers they get but they won't say what #'s they are or any graph.. My brother likes them so that is the only reason I look at them, I would never pay a cent for a magazine. Internet for me..

Diesel Dan, thanks for the thought!

Pocket, thanks for the link, I'll definitely check them out.

There's really plenty of info on this site and one or two others so a mag like Diesel Power just does not work for me.

Have to agree with yall. I think Diesel Power was owned by Chrysler. They always seem to leave out the aticles on A: how to beef up your getrag 5spd. B: How to fix your wireing harness after your little trailer overloaded it. C: How to hook your 03 cummins up to the tow truck for the third time because of fuel tank lift pump problems.D: How to explain to the stealership that the rad is part of the warranty and that it shouldn't be leaking across the top like it is.

Me too.

I'm going to drop Diesel Power and go with Power Stroke Registry.

well i honestly love diesel power mag and pick one up right after they hit the shelfs. i like how they explain how they do things when they put in parts or adjust things even if its on a cummins or dmax because i figure i probly will work on one eventully, even if they had a lot of cummins articals this month they had a lot of powerstroke articals last month too so i mean you cant please everyone at the same time. other than all that i think they do need more idi articals/build ups and more souped up work/daily drivers (which they do decent at)

just my 2 cents

What he said! I bought one issue and won't buy another. The issue I bought was about unrealistic show trucks that the average guy would never drive or build.
