I have a 460 that came out of a 78 camper special it had a auto tranny in it and I want to put it in my 77 highboy and i dont know what flywheel to put in it is it an internaly ballanced or externally ballanced motor?
It should be a internally balanced engine if its the stock '78 460. 1979 is when Ford externally balanced the 460s which were 1979 to 1996 -'97.

Yeah, one way you can determine if its external or internal is the weight on the front of the crankshaft behind the harmonic balancer. There should be a Hatchet shaped weight for externally balanced 460.
