Will Not Shift to OD when below 20 degrees F

Hi gang,

Info: 02 V10 4x4 61,000 miles

Problem: lately, the truck won't shift to overdrive unless I've been driving for a few minutes and the tranny (I guess) gets warmed up. I noticed this only when it's cold degrees outside (say 20 degrees F and below).

Once warmed up, the truck has no problems shifting into OD. I had my tranny flushed around 30,000 miles ago.

Thanks for any input, especially from our cold forum members up north.

Drive safe,

Dan

I believe that's normal on newer vehicles. My Montana is the same way, and I once drove a Dodge company truck that never shifted into OD on a 1 hour drive during a deep freeze.

FWIW, it is part of the emission strategy. The PCM prevents it from going into OD to keep the revs higher and to get the cat' converter up to proper temp.

My 99 Expedition has the same issue, I just had the tranny flushed less then a 100 miles ago, did it before and still does it now, after its warmed up in a cpl of miles it shifts perfectly, so I hope its normal....I'll keep my fingers crossed
