Combustion chamber size???
Anyone out there know how many cc's the chambers are on a 73 460 head?? Also can anyone make a suggestion for a cam that'll produce lots of low end torque?? I've got a 77 F-150, 460/C6. I'm building a new motor for it. I've already got hooker longtube headers, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, holley 750 vac sec. Looking to get the compression up around 9.5:1. Primary use of the truck is to drag my race car around.
Thanks for any help.

73 heads are around 92cc I believe. They should be around 8.5 compression.

Correct. 72-later heads were opened up to 92cc, as opposed to the earlier 72 and 76 cc heads. This dropped the CR to approx 8.3:1 according to my books.. may be 8.5:1...either way, it's low..

TxBandit,
According to some head interchange info I have on the 385's, using the 75.8 cc heads off of a 68-71 460 will raise your compression ratio to 9.6 on the 72-73 460.

Sounds like we are both doing the exact same thing to the same truck. I too have a '77 F150 460/C6 that I'm prepping for tow purposes. I'm going to be getting some C8 or C9 heads from a friend that will bump my CR to around 9.5:1. I have the plain performer intake but I have an Edelbrock 750 and will most likely run one of their RV cams(194/204 dur.@.050, 460/480 lift,110*)along with headers. If I can approach 500 ft.lbs., I'll be happy. What will you be towing?
