Does anyone know the safe operating temperature range for a 4R70W transmission?

Typical operating range is 140-200F. Actual temperature is highly variable and depends on your operating conditions. Typical readings at highway cruising under mild conditions should read around 160-180F.

I wouldn't worry about it unless you're seeing temps over 220F. If you do frequent heavy hauling, I'd suggest measures to keep it under 200F. Over-sized cooler, auxiliary cooler fan, etc.
