Anybody know wher I can purchase one for my 05 SD? Dont really want to go to the dealership, they want to much $$$. If you know of any web links or magazines, let me know. Thanks!
Make one out of cardboard, paint it black and your set, save yourself a lot of money for something that doesn't need to be used all the time depending where you're at
Funny you bring that up - It was around -9 today and my truck was cooling down to the "C" on the guage - even on high idle mode. I didnt paint the cardboard but did get it in there. got the idea from an western star truck i saw the other day.

the cover is no good to the PSD unless it exstends all the way down to the bottom of the radiator/trans cooler/oil cooler.
Check out "Alaska tent and tarp"

I disagree somewhat. It may not be AS good as a cover that extends all the way down, but it did make a significant difference on my truck.
It warms up much faster, and it doesn't cool down when I'm going down hills and such.
I've driven in temps down into the 10's-20's. I can see though, where if you were driving in much colder weather, where it would be better to cover the lower parts as well.
I did google Alaska Tent and Tarp. Their cover looks really nice, from what I can tell from the picture. I like the zipper part. But it doesn't look like it goes any lower than mine.
Lund Plastics have the "Screen Front" for summer (keeps bugs out of the radiator) and the "Cold Front" for winter..... easy to swap from one to the other.
Most auto parts stores or online sellers carry them.... here's one:
And... unless you're in interior Alaska at -40 or so, you don't want to cover every opening.... it still needs to get some air. And, the harder it's working, the more air it needs. I have an '06 F250 diesel, and leave the screen in the 2 vertical side openings with the solid covers in the center horizontal openings.... and that's in Wisconsin..... -18 yesterday, and all the way up t0 +15 today.
When you put it on you have to feed it between the grill and the bumper and then pull the bottom half down to cover the bottom....the bottom half is secured with bungee cord.

Good 'ol piece of cardboard here. I never thought of the black paint, that will make a good thing even better.

Stop by your local Awning Guy or someone that makes custom boat covers. I had one made for my truck with a zipper down the front for the warmer days. snaps over the grill and you can take it off, fold it up and stick it under your seat in the summer.
A friend just went to a fabric store and bought some pleather. His wife sewed the rest for him. All said and done it cost him around $35. No need for it where I live. Today it was in the upper 70's.
