flywheel housing dust cover

Is there suppose to be a dust cover at the bottom of the flywheel housing on a '85 302? On my truck, there is a notched out area at the bottom of the flywheel housing, and it exposes the flywheel, etc. to the elements! If a dust cover should be there, any idea where I can get one aside from a junk yard?

Thanks,
Casey

It should have a tin one... And if you don't want to get one from a junk yard or what ever the prob is you can get one at your local dealer

Probably not a big deal unless a rock or something gets up in there. It's worse if you have a manual. Unfortunately, putting it back means pulling the tranny.

What kind of water are we talking?? Normal driving or river riding? If you use the truck normal it should be fine.

In general, the centrifugal force of the rotating object will disperse any fluids that may contact it.

River riding LOL

I do it often in the summer but it sucks after because I got to change all the fluids. But I don't do it with my every day driver That much

I don't suppose anyone can provide a part number for this. I don't think I'll have much luck with the junk yards around here, and the Ford parts schematic doesn't show this piece, so the dealer parts departments around here are at a loss.

In the case of an auto tranny, but my book calls it a "converter drain plug access cover" maybe that'll help ur dealer look it up?
